Arnór Atlason (born July 23, 1984 in Reykjavík ) is a former Icelandic handball player .

Career

Arnór Atlason initially played for KA Akureyri , with whom he won the Icelandic Championship in 2002 and the Icelandic Cup in 2004. In the 2004 cup final, he scored a total of 13 goals in the 31:23 win against Fram Reykjavík . From 2004 to 2006 he played in the handball Bundesliga for the SC Magdeburg Gladiators . He then moved to Denmark, where he played with FCK Håndbold until 2010 and then with AG København . After AGK had to file for bankruptcy in 2012, he went to SG Flensburg-Handewitt . For the 2013/14 season he moved to the French club Saint-Raphaël Var Handball , where he signed a three-year contract. From the summer of 2016 he played for the Danish first division club Aalborg Håndbold . After the 2017/18 season, Arnór Atlason ended his career and became assistant coach at Aalborg Håndbold. From summer 2020 he will coach the Danish U18 national team.

Arnór Atlason was a member of the Icelandic national team . His playing position is on the center backcourt . At the 2008 Olympic Games , he won the silver medal with Iceland. In summer 2012 he took part in the Olympic Games in London .

Private

Arnór Atlason comes from a sports-loving family. His father Atli Hilmarsson and his sister Þorgerður Anna Atladóttir ran on for the Icelandic national handball team. His brother Davíð Örn Atlason plays high class football.
