The Mornos ( Greek Μόρνος , also Dafnous Δαφνούς or Ylethos Ύλαιθος, ancient Greek Ὕλαιθος Hylaithos ) is a river in Greece about 70 kilometers long . It runs in the region of Central Greece and flows through the regional district of Fokida .

The Mornos rises on the southern flank of the Oite massif and initially flows south through the mountains of Fokida into a valley landscape formed by the mountains and massifs of the Giona , Iti, Ori Lidorikiou and Vardousia . At its earlier pivoting in the aforementioned valley landscape to the west, east of the village of Lidoriki , the Mornos is dammed up to form the Mornos reservoir , which when viewed from the air has the shape of an X.

After the Mornos reservoir, the Mornos initially flows west and then swings in a south-westerly direction to its estuary delta , which covers an area of 25 km². This marks the border between the Gulf of Corinth in the east and the Gulf of Patras in the west. The Mornos forms the border between the prefecture of Fokida in the east (formerly province Dorida) and the prefecture of Aetolia-Akarnania in the west (formerly province Nafpaktia) in its running from northeast to southwest .

The water of the Mornos - especially that of the Mornos Reservoir - is used to supply water to the greater Athens area. For this purpose, water from the Evinos River in the west of the Mornos has been diverted into the Mornos through a system of tunnels since the beginning of the 21st century .
