Þorgerður Anna Atladóttir (born June 2, 1992 in Reykjavík ) is a former Icelandic handball player .
Career
Þorgerður Anna Atladóttir initially played for the Icelandic first division club UMF Stjarnan , with whom she won both the championship and the Icelandic Cup in 2008 and 2009. In 2011, the backcourt player moved to Valur Reykjavík . With Valur, she won the Icelandic Cup in 2012 and 2013. In 2013 she signed a contract with the Norwegian first division club Flint Tønsberg . In the 2013/14 season, Þorgerður Anna Atladóttir suffered from shoulder problems and therefore only played seven games in the Norwegian top division. In summer 2014 she joined the German Bundesliga club HC Leipzig . During the pre-season preparation for the 2014/15 season, the Icelander pulled a muscle tear in her shoulder from a fall while training, which meant that she had to take a break for several months. On February 25, 2015, she played her first game for Leipzig against DJK / MJC Trier . Only 15 days later she tore a cruciate ligament during training . Þorgerður Anna Atladóttir returned to UMF Stjarnan in summer 2016. With Stjarnan, she celebrated another cup success in 2017. After the 2017/18 season, she ended her career.
Þorgerður Anna Atladóttir made 23 appearances for Iceland . With her national team she took part in the 2010 European Championship and scored six goals in three games. A year later she was also part of the Icelandic squad at the World Cup in Brazil .
Private
Þorgerður Anna Atladóttir comes from a sporty family. Her father Atli Hilmarsson and her older brother Arnór Atlason each played over 100 international matches for the Icelandic national handball team. Her younger brother Davíð Örn Atlason plays high class football.
