This page describes the qualification for the 8th Men's Handball European Championship 2008 . 32 nations were involved in the qualification, of which 9 teams qualified for the finals in Norway . In addition to the Norwegian men's national handball team , as the organizer, the six best teams in the 2006 European Championship , defending champions France as well as Spain , Denmark , Croatia , Germany and Russia were directly qualified.

qualification
32 teams took part in the qualification. These had to compete in seven groups - five groups of four teams each and two groups of three teams each. The group winners and the runners-up of the groups with four teams were eligible to start in the play-off round, where a further six teams set for the play-off games were added.
