16 teams took part in the 12th Men's Handball European Championship , which was held in Poland from January 15 to 31, 2016 . Each team was allowed to register 16 players. Injured players were allowed to be replaced, with a total of 270 active players taking part in the competition. In this article the roster lists of the participating nations are presented.

The Frenchman Thierry Omeyer was the oldest player in the European Championship and, with 325 appearances, also had the most international matches of all participants.

The oldest player to take part in the 2016 European Championship was French Thierry Omeyer (born November 2, 1976), followed by Gorazd Škof from Slovenia (born July 11, 1977) and Sweden's Mattias Andersson (born March 29, 1978 ). All three were goalkeepers. Of the field players, the Russian Alexander Tschernoiwanow (born on February 13, 1979), followed by the Icelandic Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson (born on August 8, 1979) and the French Daniel Narcisse (born on December 16, 1979) was the oldest active.

The largest team on average at the 2016 European Championship was 196 centimeters from Germany , followed by Serbia , Hungary and Belarus with 195 centimeters each. Denmark

The Danish national team plays in the preliminary round in Group D against Russia (31:25), Montenegro (30:28) and Hungary (30:22). Germany

Spain

The Spanish national team played in the preliminary round in Group C against Germany (32:29), Slovenia (24:24) and Sweden (24:22). They were group winners ahead of Germany and Sweden and advanced to the main round in Group II , where they met Denmark (23:27), Hungary (31:29) and Russia (25:23). As a result, Spain won the group ahead of Germany, which meant they were qualified for the semi- finals. There they met Croatia and were able to prevail with 33:29. This qualified the Spaniards for the final , in which they met Germany. In the final they could not repeat the success of the preliminary round and had to be satisfied with the vice-European title after the 17:24 defeat.
