Darko Stanić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Дарко Станић ; born October 8, 1978 in Mojkovac , SR Montenegro , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian handball player who is under contract with the Qatari club al-Jaish .

Career

Stanić played for the German Bundesliga club SG BBM Bietigheim from October 2014 to March 2015 . Before that, the 1.97 meter tall and 92 kilogram goalkeeper was under contract from 2011 to the Macedonian club RK Metalurg Skopje , with whom he became champions in 2012 and 2014 and cup winners in 2013. Before that he played with RK Brskovo Mojkovac , RK Berane , RK Lovćen Electrolux Podgorica, RK Lovćen Cetinje , RK Roter Stern Belgrad , TV Suhr , GC Amicitia Zurich and RK Koper . With a Red Star he was Serbian-Montenegrin champion and cup winner in 2004, Slovenian champion in 2011 with Koper and cup winner in 2009 and 2011.

With these clubs he played in the European Cup Winners' Cup (2009/2010), in the EHF Champions League (2004/2005, 2008/2009), the Euro City Cup (1998/1999), in the EHF Cup (1997/1998 , 2005/2006) and in the EHF Challenge Cup (2003/2004).

From May 2006 to May 2008, a doping ban was imposed on Stanić because of a positive cocaine test.

Darko Stanić was part of the Serbian national team for the 2010 European Handball Championship and the 2011 World Cup .

At the European Championships in his own country in 2012 , he was elected Vice-European Champion with the Serbian team and as the best goalkeeper in the “ All-Star Team ”. In the summer of the same year he took part in the Olympic Games in London . He also took part in the 2014 European Handball Championship in Denmark.

In summer 2012 he was originally supposed to move to Frisch Auf Göppingen . After some back and forth, Skopje finally retained Stanić and instead gave Žarko Marković to Frisch Auf.

From March 2015 Stanić ran for the Kuwaiti club al Kuwait SC . At the beginning of the 2015/16 season he guarded the gate of the Rhein-Neckar Löwen . In October 2015, his contract was terminated and he joined the Qatari association al-Jaish .
