Mojkovac ( Cyrillic Мојковац ) is a small town in northern Montenegro . It has almost 3600 inhabitants and is located on the middle course of the Tara , about 65 km north of Podgorica . Mojkovac is the capital of the municipality of the same name with over 8,600 inhabitants and an area of 367 km². The city is also the tourist center of the Biogradska Gora National Park and a station on the Belgrade – Bar railway line .
The river Tara flows through Mojkovac, the gorge of which is the largest in Europe and the second largest in the world after the gorge of the Colorado River in the USA .
In 1916 Mojkovac was the scene of the Battle of Mojkovac between the troops of Austria-Hungary and Montenegro under the leadership of Serdar Janko Vukotić , who is therefore honored with a large statue on the town's market square.
Apart from the main town, the municipality Mojkovac also includes the following 14 villages: Lepenac, Žari, Podbišće, Polja, Bistrica, Bjelojevići, Bojna Njiva, Brskovo, Gojakovići, Dobrilovina, Prošćenje, Stevanovac, Uroševina and Štitarica.

Today's Mojkovac municipality is made up of the former Polja and Mojkovac municipalities, which were merged in 1955 when the municipalities were restructured.
Naming
The name Mojkovac is composed of the Serbian words moj , kovani and novac . Translated into German, this means my forged taler , based on the 12th century, when silver coins were forged in what is now Brskovo.

At the 2011 census, the city of Mojkovac had 3590 inhabitants. 2094 (58.33%) declared themselves as Montenegrins and 1246 (34.71%) as Serbs .
The municipality of Mojkovac had 8,622 inhabitants, of whom 5097 (59.12%) described themselves as Montenegrins and 3058 (35.47%) as Serbs . Other smaller population groups also live in the community.

Mojkovac is a junction in the road network of northern Montenegro. It is connected to the capital Podgorica by the E 65 / E 80 , which runs through Kolašin and through the Morača Valley (84 km). In addition, an important regional road leads through the Tara Gorge to Žabljak (73 km) and Pljevlja (81 km). Mojkovac also has a train station on the Belgrade – Bar line .
Sports
Mojkovac has a local handball club, RK Brskovo Mojkovac , which plays in the first Montenegrin league.
FK Brskovo Mojkovac plays in the third Montenegrin Northern League.
