Sutomore ( Cyrillic Сутоморе , Albanian Spiç / Spiçi , Venetian Spizza ) is a small coastal town in the municipality of Bar , Montenegro . It has 1827 inhabitants.
history
Sutomore was called Spizza when it was part of the Republic of Venice from 1420 to 1797, and subsequently part of Venetian Albania , except during the brief period of Turkish occupation. From 1879 to 1918 the place belonged as the southernmost municipality to the Kingdom of Dalmatia within Austria-Hungary . The Austrian census of 1910 reported that there were Venetian-speaking families in Spizza at the beginning of the 20th century.
today

Low prices - compared to neighboring Budva - together with easy access via the Belgrade – Bar railway line make the city a popular destination for tourists who populate Sutomore particularly in the summer months. The place is also a preferred destination for trips by young people from Podgorica , as it is only half an hour away by train or car through the Sozina tunnel .
