Žabljak ( Cyrillic Жабљак ) is a small town in the center of the Durmitor National Park in Montenegro . The city has about 2000 inhabitants and is the starting point for numerous excursions and trips into the mountains. The city is the highest in the whole country and the seat of the municipality of the same name with about 3600 inhabitants.

During the Second World War , Žabljak was completely destroyed and then completely rebuilt.

At the 2011 census, the municipality of Žabljak had 3,569 inhabitants, of which 1,800 (50.43%) identified themselves as Montenegrins and 1,474 (41.3%) as Serbs . 215 inhabitants (6.02%) did not want to assign themselves to any group.

tourism

Especially in midsummer, the landscape around the place offers many Montenegrins and Serbs from the lowlands a welcome cooling off. In winter, the ski area around the Savin Kuk also offers challenging downhill slopes.
