Róbert Gunnarsson (born May 22, 1980 in Reykjavík ) is a former Icelandic handball player . The circle runner played for the Icelandic men's national handball team , for which he played 276 international matches and threw 773 goals.
Career
Gunnarsson started playing handball in Fylkir and later moved to Fram Reykjavík . He came to VfL Gummersbach in 2005 via the Danish club Århus GF, with whom he won the EHF Cup in 2009 and the European Cup Winners ' Cup in 2010 . In December 2009, his move to the Rhein-Neckar Löwen at the end of the 2009/10 season was announced. After two years with the Lions, he moved to the French first division club Paris Saint-Germain . With Paris he won the championship in 2013, 2015 and 2016 and the French Cup in 2014 and 2015. In summer 2016 he returned to Århus. He ended his career after the 2017/18 season.
He took part with Iceland at the 2007 World Cup in Germany and was eliminated from Denmark in the quarter-finals. At the 2008 Olympics , he won the silver medal. In 2010 Gunnarsson reached 3rd place at the European Championships in Austria . In summer 2012 he took part in the Olympic Games in London .

He and his girlfriend Svala have two daughters and a son.
