Erik Schmidt (born December 28, 1992 in Mainz ) is a German handball player . He plays for SC Magdeburg .

Career

Erik Schmidt began playing handball at TG 1862 Rüsselsheim . Via TSG Münster , SG Wallau and TV Großwallstadt , the 2.04 meter tall runner came to TV Groß-Umstadt in winter 2010 , with whom he played in the 3rd division . In 2012 he moved to the second division TSG Friesenheim , with whom he was promoted to the handball Bundesliga in 2014 . Since summer 2015 he has been playing for TSV Hannover-Burgdorf . For the 2017/18 season he switched to Füchsen Berlin , where he signed a three-year contract in May 2016. With Füchsen Berlin, he won the EHF Cup in 2018 . In 2019 he reached the Final Fours in the EHF Cup and DHB Cup with the Foxes. For the 2019/20 season he moved to SC Magdeburg .

National team

On September 20, 2014, Schmidt made his debut in the German national handball team in Göppingen in a friendly against Switzerland . At the European Championships in Poland in 2016 , he became European champions with the German team with a 24:17 victory over Spain . For this he was awarded the sports badge of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

In December 2017, Schmidt was nominated by national coach Christian Prokop for the extended squad for the European Championship 2018 . He has played 38 games so far in which he scored 40 goals.
