Žarko Šešum ( Serbian - Cyrillic Жарко Шешум ; born June 16, 1986 in Bačka Palanka , SR Serbia , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian handball player . He has been playing for the Kadetten Schaffhausen since 2018 .
At the European Junior Championships in Innsbruck in August 2006, he was voted the best player of the tournament.
Career
From the end of 2006 to the beginning of 2007, several Bundesliga clubs were very interested in Šešum, and HSV Hamburg in particular worked hard to recruit the young Serb. In February 2007 he signed a contract with KC Veszprém until 2011. In 2008, Šešum won the European Cup Winners' Cup and the Hungarian championship with Veszprém . A move to the Rhein-Neckar Löwen was planned for the 2011 season . After Michael Müller injured himself there at the beginning of the 2010 season, the transfer was brought forward and settled in September 2010. He won the EHF Cup with the Lions in 2013 . For the 2014/15 season he moved to Frisch Auf Göppingen. With Göppingen he won the EHF Cup in 2016 and 2017. For the 2018/19 season he moves to the Kadetten Schaffhausen . With Schaffhausen he won the Swiss championship in 2019.
On February 8, 2009, Žarko Šešum was seriously injured in a knife fight in a Veszprém dance hall. He suffered a fractured skull from being kicked in the head. His teammate Marian Cozma died of two knife wounds in the heart and Ivan Pešić lost a kidney from one stab. At the European Championships in 2012, he was injured in the eye by a throw with an object after the semi-final match against Croatia.
For the Serbian national handball team Šešum played 124 international matches until January 2013, in which he threw 301 goals. He was on the squad for the 2011 World Cup . At the Euro 2012 in his own country, he was runner-up with the Serbian national team. In summer 2012 he took part in the Olympic Games in London . At the 2013 World Cup , he finished 10th.
