Bačka Palanka ( Serbian / Croatian : Bačka Palanka ; Serbian Cyrillic : Бачка Паланка ; Slovak : Báčska Palanka ; Hungarian : Bácspalánka ; German : Plankenburg ) is a municipality and a city or town in Serbia , which is in the southern Batschka in the autonomous province Vojvodina is located.
The city is connected to the Croatian city of Ilok by a 740 m long bridge over the Danube .
Geographical location
The city is located on the left bank of the Danube , about 45 km upstream from Novi Sad . The municipality includes the places Obrovac , Karađorđevo (stud farm), Tovariševo, Mladenovo, Čelarevo , Gajdobra, Nova Gajdobra, Silbaš, Parage, Despotovo and Pivnice as well as two villages in Srem (Neštin and Vizić). The Little Batschka Canal runs in the north of the municipality, near Despotovo .

According to the 2002 census, the municipality has 60,966 people, 29,449 of them in the town of Bačka Palanka.

Attractions
From 1783 to 1787 the Serbian Orthodox Church for the birth of St. John the Baptist was built in the city center . At the same time, the Roman Catholic Church was built from 1782 to 1784, primarily for the German population, to which a monastery was temporarily attached.
The Tikvare leisure center with an outdoor pool and various sports facilities is located south of the city center on the banks of the Danube .
