Anton Scherer
Anton Scherer (born July 19, 1922 in Obrovac ( German Obrowatz or Oberndorf ), Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes ; † January 14, 2015 in Graz , Austria ) was a teacher , literary historian and author .
life and work
Scherer was born as the oldest of eight siblings in Obrovac, today a district of Bačka Palanka (Plankenburg), in the southern Batschka , but grew up in the neighboring village of Mladenovo (Bukin). He attended high school and teacher training college in Vrbas (Werbass); After stations in Novi Sad (Neusatz), Budapest and Vienna , he passed his Abitur in Berlin . He studied German , Slavic , history , geography , philosophy , art history and folklore at the universities of Vienna , Berlin , Innsbruck and Graz .
In 1946/1947 Scherer passed the teaching examination for German and Serbo-Croatian at the University of Graz. He then worked as a research assistant at the "Seminar for German Philology" . From 1948 to 1982 he was appointed lecturer there for the history of Austrian-Southeast European cultural relations . In 1955 he received his doctorate in philosophy. As a lecturer and later professor, he taught at several grammar schools in Graz from 1949 to 1982.
Scherer also managed the Danube Swabian Bibliographical Archive in Graz.
