Jelena Bodražić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Јелена Бодражић ; born December 22, 1971 in Bačka Palanka , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian opera and concert singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Jelena Bodražić's father is an agricultural engineer and the mother is a Serbian teacher. Her brother is water polo player Zivko Bodražić. Before starting her vocal training, she played as a professional basketball player in the top division of what was then the Republic of Yugoslavia . She was discovered by the conductor Radivoje Terzin and from 1988 sang as a soprano soloist in the girls' choir "Gusle" in her hometown of Kikinda .

In 1990 she took singing lessons from Professor Prizrenka Petković at the Isidor Bajić Music School in Novi Sad . She worked on her mezzo-soprano voice and received the “Melanija Bugarinović” scholarship for this. In 1993 she began studying singing at the Academy of Art in Belgrade . There she attended Professor Radmila Smiljanić's class. In 1994 she returned to the University of Novi Sad for further training , where she attended Biserka Cvejić's class. She received a firm commitment in the Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad in the same year and made his debut as Count Orlowski in the bat of Johann Strauss . This was followed by first place at the international singing competition "Josif Marinković" in Novi Becej, Serbia, as well as an engagement at the National Theater in Belgrade as a youthful-dramatic mezzo-soprano. From 1994 to 2000 she sang works by Konstantin Babić, Josif Marinković and oratorios under the direction of Mladen Jagust in Serbia, including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem and Sparrow Mass , Bach's Mass in B minor and Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria . She also gave solo concerts (opera arias or songs by Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, De Falla, Rossini, Skerjanc, Schubert, Schumann etc.).

In 1997 the privately run opera and theater "Mladenianum" was opened in Belgrade. There Bodražić sang the role of Fidalma in Il matrimonio segreto by Domenico Cimarosa . After this performance she received the role of Lucretia in the opera The Rape of Lucretia by Benjamin Britten at the National Opera in Belgrade . In doing so, she drew the attention of some opera critics. From the year 2000, she moved to Germany and other European countries. There she performed a. a. in opera houses in Mainz, Wiesbaden, Berlin, Halle, Dessau, Vienna, Nice, Ferarra, Piacenza, Modena, Bozen, Bern, Linz, Augsburg, Zwickau and Regensburg. In addition to her opera appearances, Jelena Bodražić has given recitals across Europe and has performed as a soloist in choir and orchestral concerts. Her favorite composers are Schumann, Brahms, Mahler, Poulenc and Debussy. The following piano partners supported the recitals: Dragan Radivojević, Maja Lulić, Emanuele Lippi, Jean-Pierre Faber, Jürgen Schmidt and Erica le Roux. The most important conductors on their way were Mladen Jagust, Bojan Sudjić, Ruben Silva, Manlio Benzi, Ralf Reuter, Leopold Hager , Michael Güttler , Michael Hoffstaetter, Noorman Widjaja and Gustav Kuhn . During her career, Jelena Bodražić has worked with some great personalities from the opera world, including a. with Zeljko Lućić, Eduardo Villa , Sue Patchell and Ewa Podleś .
