Sparrow fair
The Sparrow Mass in C major, KV 220 (196b), is a mass by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart .
It was probably premiered on Easter Sunday , April 7th, 1776 in Salzburg Cathedral and belongs to the type of "Missa brevis et solemnis", that is, it is on the one hand tightly arranged according to a Missa brevis , but on the other hand it is festively set like a Missa with trumpets and timpani solemnis . Mozart refrained from breaking up the text of the ordinarium into individual numbers, extended complete solo movements, final figures and contrapuntal sections in general .
- Kyrie
- Gloria
- Creed
- Sanctus
- Benedictus
- Agnus Dei
The mass owes its nickname "Spatzenmesse" to the memorable violin figures in the Allegro des Sanctus and Benedictus .
