The New Mozart Edition, which has been published by Bärenreiter-Verlag (Kassel, Basel, London, New York, Prague) since 1955 , offers researchers a scientifically sound musical text based on all available sources - primarily Mozart's autographs - which is also a conductor , Instrumentalists and singers creates a text basis for faithful performances. The main series I to IX, which appeared between 1956 and 1991 and which contain the actual works, are considered to be the works of the century in recent Mozart research, and modern performance practice of Mozart's works is also inconceivable without this edition. Significant volumes of the supplement have shed a new, illuminating light on aspects of Mozart's work that have so far been neglected, such as his work as a teacher or as the arranger of other people's works.

The edition appears in approx. 130 volumes in 35 groups of works, which are spread over 10 series. The completed works are in chronological order within the work groups. Sketches, drafts and fragments of the works can be found in the appendix to the relevant volume. In addition to the prints, each volume of music contains a detailed foreword and facsimile images from the source material. A critical report appears separately for each music volume. The editing of the New Mozart Edition is located in the International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg, and in addition to the Foundation, the German Mozart Society is responsible for it .
