Ana Lúcia Pereira Moniz (born September 9, 1976 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese singer and actress .

life and career

Lúcia Moniz was born in Lisbon in 1976 as the daughter of the Portuguese actor Carlos Alberto Moniz and Marie do Amparo Pereira. She has a younger sister, actress Sara Moniz, and a half-brother. She attended the Music Academy de Santa Cecilia from 1990 to 1991. She later went to the United States in Minnesota to the Eden Prairie High School. Here she received a prize for the best female composer at the school. In 1996 she reached sixth place for Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo . Although this was the second-best ranking for her home country so far, the song O meu coração nicht tém cor remained fairly unknown in Portugal. After participating in Eurovision, she made a career in theater and soap operas, which made her well-known in Portugal. In 2003, she starred in the British romantic comedy Actually ... Love opposite Colin Firth .

In 1999 Moniz released her first album Magnólia , which contains English and Portuguese pop songs. Musically, these have no resemblance to their song performed at the Eurovision Song Contest. Lúcia is still active as an actress and singer. In Portugal she is known for both activities. This was followed by the albums 67 (2002, produced by Nuno Bettencourt ), Leva-me P'ra Casa (2005) and Fio de Luz (2011). Her singles Leve beijo triste (up to number 16 in the 22nd week of 2008) and A wish (keep fighting) (number 12 in the second week of 2008) stayed in the Portuguese charts for several weeks.

Moniz has a daughter born in June 2004 from the relationship with the musician Donovan Bettencourt, which has now ended.
