Homens da Luta

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Homens da Luta (Portuguese for "men of struggle") is a Portuguese comedy and music group of the two brothers Vasco Duarte (Falâncio) and Nuno Duarte "Jel" (Neto).

Career and conception

Her pieces are a parody of songs that appeared between the Carnation Revolution and the entry into force of the new Portuguese constitution ( PREC - Processo Revolucionário em Curso ), for example by protest song singers such as José Afonso or José Mário Branco . On the one hand, they allude to the nostalgic style of the songs of the 70s, on the other hand, they humorously and critically call for a new revolution in today's crisis-ridden Portugal.

Beginning in the mid-2000s as a funny performance by two street musicians, they have now grown to a line-up of up to 11 musicians and were frequent guests on Portuguese television and radio. In 2010 the group released the album A cantiga é uma arma (“The song is a weapon”) with 14 tracks, with Rui Veloso as a guest musician and with musical quotations from José Afonso and Paulo de Carvalho , the singers of the two most important watchwords of the night to the Carnation Revolution. The album was released as an MP3 stick in a stylized guitar machine gun shape, announced by the band as a "revolutionary format" and called "LPod" .

On April 25, 2011 (the anniversary of the Carnation Revolution), her book Viva a crise! Manual da Alegria ("Long Live the Crisis! Handbook of Joy"), in which they parody revolutionary theories and symbolism, criticize politics and society in a cabaret-like manner, and imitate Zeitgeist magazines 'revolutionary'.

Festival da Canção

In 2010, Homens da Luta competed at the Festival da Canção and were elected to the semifinals by online voting. The song was disqualified because it did not comply with the rules of either the Portuguese or the International Festival.

In 2011 the group ran again and won with the song Luta É Alegria ( Fight is Joy ) (vocals: Jel Duarte, music: Vasco Duarte), with which they represented Portugal in the first semifinals of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf. However, they were eliminated in the first semifinals.
