Elisa Silva , known as Elisa , (born May 7, 1999 in Madeira , Portugal ) is a Portuguese singer. She was supposed to represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam . However, the competition had to be canceled on March 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

biography

Elisa Silva comes from the Portuguese island of Madeira. She started singing as a child and took part in several singing competitions, including the 4th Festival da Canção Infantil "Pequenos Sóis" in 2008 with the song O Sol ea Nuvem . The following year she won the 5th Festival da Canção Infantil "Pequenos Sóis" with the song Voa Borboleta, Voa . In 2010 she took part in the 29º Festival da Canção Infantil da Madeira . At the Festival Regional de Talentos 2013 in Câmara de Lobos on Madeira, Elisa emerged as the winner with the song On My Own .

In 2015 Elisa took part in the 5th season of Ídolos , the Portuguese version of the talent show Pop Idol . There, however, she retired before the live shows.

Elisa began studying jazz at the Madeira Conservatory when she was 17 . She later studied music in Lisbon and signed a record deal with the Warner Music Group . She was particularly influenced by the music of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s as well as by musicians such as the Beatles , Queen , The Eagle and ABBA since childhood .

In 2020 Elisa took part in the Festival da Canção , the Portuguese preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song Medo de Sentir comes from the songwriter Marta Carvalho. In the final on March 7, 2020, she took second place in both the jury voting and the audience vote and was able to prevail with 2 points ahead of runner-up Bárbara Tinoco. By winning the Festival da Canção, Elisa received the right to represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam. There she should compete in the second semifinals on May 14th. The competition had to be canceled.
