format

concept

In 2020, the public broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) will stick to the concept of the previous years. There will be two semi-finals with eight performers each. Four of them qualify for the final in each semi-final, where eight participants then appear. A jury and the audience vote equally.

Choice of contribution

The public broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) invited 14 composers from various musical genres to compose contributions for the preliminary round, which they should submit by October 31, 2019. The final versions of the songs should be completed by November 30, 2019. According to RTP, two of the 14 composers have already been determined, but their names have not yet been published. RTP selected the 15th composer in the Master Class format , a broadcast produced by Antena 1 aimed at authors and composers who have not yet published a work. A jury put together by the station director Rui Pêgo selected Cláudio Francisco António as the winner. The 16th composer was selected through an open application process. All citizens with Portuguese nationality or a place of residence in Portugal, regardless of whether they have already published a song, are invited to submit a contribution to RTP. A specially composed jury from the music and television industry examined the until October 15, 2019 and selected Dubio ft. +351.
