The 47th Festival da Canção took place on March 5, 2011 in the Camões Theater in Lisbon and served as the Portuguese preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 , which was held in May 2011 in Düsseldorf .

regulate

On November 19, 2010, the Portuguese radio - Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) - launched a call for contributions that could be sent in for the next two months. The songs had to be written in Portuguese and the performers and lyricists had to be Portuguese citizens. The composers could come from other countries.

A jury selected 24 songs from all 407 submissions, which could be evaluated in an Internet vote from January 20th to 27th, 2011. Only one and a half minute excerpts from the songs were used. The twelve entries with the most votes made it to the final on March 5th. The winner there was decided by 20 juries (one each for the districts of Portugal and one for the autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira ) and the audience each with a share of 50%.

Internet voting

The songs Por ti by António José Silva, Um sinal by Bettershell and Amor cruzado by Miguel Gizzas were disqualified because the songs had already been published in advance. Among the remaining 21 songs, the comedy group Homens da Luta prevailed, which had already participated in the preliminary round the previous year, but whose contribution was disqualified.

The Ralph Siegel - Bernd Opinioner composition Não estamos sós by Emanuel Santos, as well as the O tempo resolve tudo by Woodu, co-written by José Cid , did not make it into the final . Siegel and opinion have been responsible for many contributions to the Eurovision Song Contest over the past 30 years , José Cid represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1980 . Other earlier ESC composers, such as the Croatian Andrej Babić or the Swede Jonas Gladnikoff , made it into the main round of the Festival da Canção with Sobrevivo by Carla Moreno and Tensão by Filipa Ruas.

Although fewer songs could be rated than in the previous year, the number of votes increased almost fivefold, namely to 222764 votes (2010: 42,998).

final

On March 5, 2011, the finale of the Festival da Canção took place in the Camões Theater in the capital Lisbon . As in previous years, Sílvia Alberto was the moderator , while Joana Teles reported from the Greenroom . The Maltese representative Glen Vella , who sang an a cappella version of his song One Life , had a guest appearance .

RTP1 broadcast the program within Portugal, and via RTP Internacional and a live stream it could also be received in the rest of the world.

When voting, there were big differences between the juries and the telephone vote. For example, the winning group, Homens da Luta, only received six points from the judges while winning the televoting. Conversely, Nuno Norte, the jury's favorite, only received five points from the audience. Inês Bernardo, who was awarded the second highest number of points by the jurors, did not receive a point from the audience. Thus, the maximum number of points was only achieved 18 out of a possible 24 points. In addition to Homens da Luta, Filipa Ruas and Carla Moreno were favorites.

Eurovision Song Contest

Homens da Luta competed in the first semi-final of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest as the 16th interpreter after the Hungarian and before the Lithuanian contribution. The group members Rui Rechena, Tânia Lopes, Ana Figueredo, Hugo Osga as well as Nuno and Vasco Duarte wore clothes from various professions (including construction worker and soldier) and held up signs that read The fight is joy in different languages.

In the mixed vote of jury and televoting, they achieved 18th place with 22 points out of 19 participants, so they did not qualify for the final. If the jury had only voted, they would have reached the last place, the spectators put A luta é alegria (German “The fight is joy”) in 15th place.
