Glen Vella

Glen Vella (born May 14, 1984 in Malta ) is a Maltese singer . He represented his home country at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest .

Life

Glen Vella was born on May 14, 1984 in Malta.

He began his musical career at the age of 13. Vella first learned to play the piano and received singing lessons in Malta before continuing his musical training at the Victoria College of Music in London. He was one of the co-founders of the Animae Gospel Choir , one of the most famous choirs in his country. As a singer, Glen Vella appeared in various musical productions in Malta. These included Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell , as well as the music show ABBA Mania . He has also been a regular guest on Maltese television programs such as Kalamita , Showtime , Sa 6 and Sibtijiet Flimkien .

In 2005 Vella took part for the first time in a national preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest. His song Appreciate was only able to take sixth place. Together with the singer Pamela , he presented the song Loved by You to the Maltese audience in 2008 , but did not get past the national semifinals. In the following year he went to the national preliminary round with the music group Q. The song Before you walk away reached third place in Malta's final in 2009. In 2010 Glen Vella appeared again as a solo artist in this competition and reached second place in the national final with the piece Just a little more love . He also won in 2010 at the Malta Music Awards the award for Best Male Artist .

On February 12, 2011, the national preliminary decision for participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 took place in Düsseldorf. Glen Vella took first place with the song One Life at the show at the Mediterranean Conference Center in Malta's capital Valletta, which was broadcast by the television broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services . The winner was determined by televoting (33%) and a jury decision (67%). The text of the winning title came from Fleur Balzan, the composer was Paul Giordimaina . Vella presented the song in Düsseldorf on May 10, 2011 in the first semi-final of the international competition. However, his title could not qualify for the final, he missed the final by just one point.

In 2014 Vella applied with the song Breakaway to the preliminary round of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2015 and reached 3rd place in the final.
