Kurt Calleja
Kurt Calleja (born May 5, 1989 in Ħamrun ) is a Maltese singer and composer . He represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 .
Life
Kurt Calleja initially received four years of vocal training from the Maltese musician Brian Cefai , before he went to London for a year and performed in various clubs. After returning to Malta, he appeared as a singer on various television programs. In 2010 he took part for the first time in the national preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 . His song Waterfall , performed together with Priscilla Psaila , failed to convince the audience and the jury at the Malta Song For Europe . Together with the Swede Johan Jämtberg, he wrote the song Over and Over for the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 , which ended up in third place in the national preliminary round. For the preliminary round of 2012, Calleja worked again with Jämtberg and also with Mikael Gunnerås. The jointly composed song This is the Night , interpreted by Calleja, won first place in the final round of the Malta Song For Europe on February 4, 2012 at the Malta Fairs & Convention Center in Ta 'Qali . Kurt Calleja represented Malta with this song in May 2012 at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku . On May 24th he moved into the ESC final, which took place two days later, where he finally finished 21st.
