Destiny Chukunyere , also known as Destiny , MQR (born August 29, 2002 in Birkirkara , Malta ) is a Maltese singer. She won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Sofia with her song Not my Soul . She will represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam .

life and career

Family and beginning of career

Destiny Chukunyere was born on August 29, 2002. Her father, the former soccer player Ndubisi Chukunyere, comes from Nigeria and her mother is Maltese. She has two younger siblings, a sister named Melody and a brother named Isaiah.

Chukunyere took part in various singing competitions, including the festival Kanzunetta Indipendenza 2014, where she took third place with the song Festa t'Ilwien . She also won the Asterisks Music Festival and 2013 SanRemo Junior in Italy.

Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015

On July 11th, 2015 Destiny Chukunyere won the Maltese preliminary decision for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with her performance of Aretha Franklins Think . She herself was involved in the writing of her song Not my Soul , which was written by Elton Zarb and Muxu. On November 21, 2015, Chukunyere won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Sofia, Bulgaria with 185 points . This represented a new record of points.

As a result of the victory, Chukunyere and her team were awarded the Midalja ghall-Qadi tar-Repubblika medal on December 13, 2015 .

Career since 2015

In 2017, Chukunyere took part in the eleventh season of Britain's Got Talent , where she was eliminated in the semifinals.

At the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 she appeared as an accompanist for the Maltese singer Michela Pace and her song Chameleon . The song reached the 14th place.

Eurovision Song Contest 2020/2021

In 2019 it was announced that Destiny Chukunyere would be participating in the second season of X Factor Malta. There she was in the Girls group , which was supervised by Ira Losco . On February 8, 2020, she won the competition and was supposed to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 . However, the competition had to be canceled on March 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic . Destiny was then selected internally for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 .
