The 44th Festival da Canção took place on February 27, 2009 at the Teatro Camões in Lisbon . The host television station was Rádio e Televisão de Portugal . At the same time it served as the Portuguese preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 . 12 candidates took part.

Interested Portuguese composers could submit titles until January 12th. The titles had to be sung in Portuguese . By January 19, a jury had selected the best 24 titles. In an online vote , the number of titles was halved. This lasted until January 30th.

In the final on February 27, the voting was split according to the regions of Portugal (picture). Voting was done by televoting and by a jury (50% influence each). The winner of the competition and thus Portugal's contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow was the band Flor-de-Lis with the song Todas as ruas do amor .
