Eduardo Nascimento (born June 26, 1943 in Luanda , † November 22, 2019 in Lisbon ) was an Angolan singer . He is considered the first black interpreter in the Eurovision Song Contest .

From 1962 Nascimento sang as a front man with the Angolan beat band Os Rocks . The band came to Portugal in the mid-1960s to take part in song festivals, and they also recorded two EPs . Nascimento took part in the Festival da Canção in 1967 and clearly won it. Therefore he was allowed to compete for Portugal at the Grand Prix de la Chanson 1967 in Vienna . With the hit O vento mudou , he went to 12th place. Nascimento ended his musical career a year later and returned to Angola in 1969.

However, interest in Eduardo Nascimento and his biggest solo hit never completely dried up. Well-known musicians recorded the piece again and again, including an electro-pop version by the group Da Vinci (1995), an acoustic rock version by the popular band UHF (2010), or a version by Miguel Ângelo, singer of the group Delfins (2015). UHF and Miguel Ângelo recorded their versions in a duet with Nascimento in person, and they also appeared on television together.
