Rolf Eschenbach (born May 12, 1931 in Jena ) is a German and Austrian economist .

Life

Rolf Eschenbach was born on May 12, 1931 in Jena / Thuringia (father: Günther Wolfram Eschenbach; mother: Gertrud Eschenbach, née Merkel; two siblings) and spent his childhood and youth in central Germany and Silesia. After graduating from high school in Eisenberg / Thuringia in 1950, he began an apprenticeship as a brewer and maltster in the Henninger brewery in Frankfurt am Main, which he completed with the skilled worker examination in 1953. In the following years of traveling, Rolf Eschenbach worked in several breweries and malt houses in Stuttgart, Trier, Bern / Switzerland, Heidelberg, Frankfurt am Main, Lich and Kulmbach.

From 1955 to 1958 Eschenbach studied brewing at the Technical University of Munich in Weihenstephan, where he graduated in 1956 as a master brewer and in 1958 as a brewery engineer.

From 1958 to 1964, Eschenbach was an examination assistant in the Weihenstephan state trust, an auditing and tax consulting company, and at the same time a research assistant at the Technical University of Munich , Institute for Economics at the Weihenstephan brewery under Franz Kinnebrock (WP and StB). At that time, his main areas of work were corporate planning and the valuation of entire companies. After receiving a doctorate in business administration (1962), he completed his habilitation in business administration (1964). Activities as a publicly appointed and sworn expert for the evaluation of breweries and malt houses in the industrial sector. and Chambers of Commerce in Munich (1961 to 1967) and Frankfurt am Main (1972 to 1990) followed. In 1970 Eschenbach was appointed adjunct professor at the Technical University of Munich.

He was a member of the board of directors of the Hansa brewery in Dortmund (1967 to 1972) and Deutsche Brau AG in Hamburg (1972 to 1975), as well as a member of the supervisory and advisory boards of various companies in Germany and Austria. From 1975 Eschenbach was a full professor of corporate management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and was retired in 1999. Since then he has continued his teaching and research activities at the Vienna University of Economics and Business.

In 1980 he initiated the Austrian Controller Day, a leading Austrian congress for future-oriented management and controlling in Austria. In 1995, the Eastern Europe master class was founded at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, a training concept that offers additional training to the standard course for future managers in Central and Eastern Europe.

During his professorship in Vienna, Rolf Eschenbach founded the Austrian Controller Institute in 1982, a non-profit association for the promotion of controlling, and finally in 1991 became a founding partner of Contrast Management Consulting GmbH, a management consulting company based in Vienna. As part of this company, Eschenbach worked as a consultant and appraiser for Austrian and German companies as well as for public institutions.

From 1997 to 2006 Rolf Eschenbach was a founding member and chairman of the supervisory board of the NPO institute at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. From 2002 to 2013 he was a reviewer for the International Foundation for Quality for Bachelor and Master’s degree programs (FIBAA), Bonn.

Rolf Eschenbach published around 300 books and articles in specialist journals and gave around 340 lectures and guest lectures at home and abroad. His main areas of work are strategic and operational corporate management , controlling and materials management .

From 1983 to 1993 Eschenbach was a member of the community council of the Protestant parish AB Wien-Döbling. He is married to Hedi Eschenbach (née Zott), has two grown children and has both German and Austrian citizenship.
