Michael Güttler

Michael Güttler (* 1966 in Steinheidel ) is a German conductor .

Life

Güttler completed a degree in orchestral conducting at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden and was then accepted into the Conductor Forum funding program of the German Music Council . He won first prizes at the European Community competition "Franco Capuana" in Spoleto (1996), as well as "Bottega" in Treviso (1994), the International Conductors' Forum in Hamm in 1993 and "Conduct for Dance" in London (1993).

From 1998 to 2002 he was chief conductor at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt . After stepping in for the sick Valery Gergiev at the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg , conducting Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen and Parsifal , he has been a permanent guest conductor there since 2003. At this theater he also conducted: Tristan und Isolde , Lohengrin , Falstaff , Don Carlo , Aida , La Traviata , Le nozze di Figaro , Ariadne auf Naxos and Lucia di Lammermoor .

As a guest conductor he has appeared at the Vienna State Opera , the Opéra National de Paris , the Washington National Opera , and the Teatro Real de Madrid . He had a great success in May 2007 when he stepped in at the Bastille Opera with Lohengrin (with Waltraud Meier and Ben Heppner, among others ).

He made his debut with the following orchestras and theaters, among others: Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (April 2008), Orchester de Paris (May / June 2008), RAI Torino (June 2008), Radio Madrid (May 2008), Moscow Philharmonic (March 2008), Russian National Philharmonic (November 2008), Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra (October 2008), Washington National Opera (May 2009), Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf (October 2009), Hamburg State Opera (November 2009), Concerto Cologne (February 2010), Théâtre des Champs- Élysées (February 2010), Teatro Real Madrid (March 2010), Teatro Nacional de São Carlos Lisbon (April 2010), New National Theater Tokyo (October 2010), Vienna State Opera (November 2010).

In the 2009/2010 season Güttler conducted Verdi's opera Un ballo in maschera at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein . In the 2010/2011 season he directed several performances of the operas Rigoletto , Eugene Onegin and The Barber of Seville at the Vienna State Opera .

Güttler has been chief conductor of the Finnish National Opera Helsinki since August 2013 .

He works regularly with the singers Anna Netrebko (since the 2003/2004 season) and Jonas Kaufmann . His father is the trumpeter Ludwig Güttler .
