The Teatro Nacional de São Carlos (also Opera de São Carlos) is the opera house of Lisbon . It is located in the southern part of the Portuguese capital, more precisely in the old town district of Chiado in Rua Serpa Pinto No. 9. It is the namesake of the adjacent Largo de São Carlos .
The building was completed on July 30, 1793. The architect was José da Costa e Silva .

- In the 2008/2009 season, Julia Jones became the orchestra's chief conductor

- 1952 - The German opera singer Georgine von Milinkovic makes a guest appearance in the role of Herodias
- On March 27th and 30th, Maria Callas sings Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata , together with Alfredo Kraus as Alfredo. There is a live recording.
- 1961: Colette Lorand appears as Konstanze in The Abduction from the Seraglio by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
