Elisabeth Glauser
Elisabeth Glauser (born June 1, 1943 in Interlaken ) is a Swiss opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ) and music teacher .
life and career
Elisabeth Glauser first studied at the Bern Conservatory with Felix Loeffel before moving to Stockholm to work with Arne Sunnegaardh. She received further impulses from Carlo Zattoni .
Her first permanent engagement was between 1971 and 1973 at the Pforzheim City Theater . She then moved to the Freiburg City Theater , where she was engaged until 1975. From 1975 to 1982 she was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Dortmund Opera House . She had one last permanent engagement from 1982 to 1988 at the Württemberg State Opera in Stuttgart .
During her permanent engagements, she made frequent guest appearances at major festivals and opera houses around the world. Between 1976 and 1980 she appeared as Roßweiße at the Bayreuth Festival in the famous Jahrhundertring in the production of Patrice Chéreau under the musical direction of Pierre Boulez .
In the 1979/80 season she sang Annina in a new production of the Strauss opera Der Rosenkavalier (premiere: February 1980, director: Heinz Peters ) at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden . In the 1979/80 season she also took on the role of Judith in a new production of the one-act opera Duke Bluebeard's Castle at the United Städtische Bühnen Krefeld (premiere: April 1980); With her "beautiful mezzo-soprano, easily performed in all registers, she was able to fill her dominant role at a high level". In the 1980/81 season she sang Fricka in Das Rheingold at the Lübeck Städtische Bühnen as a guest ; she was a goddess “with level”. In June 1983 she sang at the Schwetzingen Festival in the world premiere of the opera The English Cat by Hans Werner Henze "with a solid mezzo", the role of the "healthy and tough" village cat Babette; She took on this role in the 1983/84 season at the Stuttgart State Opera and "demonstrated what glamorous depths she has." In the 1983/84 season she appeared in a new production at the St. Gallen City Theater in the title role of the Britten Opera The Rape of Lucretia (German title: Lucretia ); as Lucretia she was a “multi-faceted artist capable of improvement ... who knew how to use her vocal means in a tasteful and effective way.” 1985 she was a guest at the Glyndebourne Festival as Adelaide in Arabella ; she took on this role again when it was resumed in the summer of 1989. In the 1985/86 season she sang the role of Mrs. Quickly in Falstaff at the Freiburg Theater ; also in the 1985/86 season at the Heidelberg City Theater Herodias in the opera Salome . In 1988 she sang Herodias in Salome in Rome , in 1989 in Nice the Annina in Richard Strauss ' opera Der Rosenkavalier and in 1990 the mother in Hansel and Gretel at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg .
The opera houses at which she has made guest appearances included the Teatro la Fenice in Venice , the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna , the Komische Oper Berlin , the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and Duisburg , the Cologne Opera , the Hanover State Opera , the Zurich Opera House , the Grand Théâtre de Genève , the Teatro San Carlos in Lisbon and the Nice Opera House.
She also dedicated herself to concert and oratorio singing. Since 1988 she has been professor for singing at the University of the Arts in Bern .
