Heinz Peters (singer)

Heinz Peters (* 1926 ; † 2001 ) was a German opera singer ( bass ) and opera director.

Life

Peters was a graduate of Folkwang University of the Arts , where he studied singing . He had engagements at the Staatstheater Braunschweig , the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern and in Leverkusen . From the 1960s, Peters was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Wiesbaden State Theater . There he was officially active as a soloist and director until the end of the 1992/93 season.

Peters was involved in numerous premieres and new productions during his permanent engagement in Wiesbaden . In 1964 he sang Ganymede in the operetta Die Schöne Galathée with Joseph Spelthahn (Pygmalion) and Elvira Scholz (title role) as partners. In May 1968 he sang Count Dominik in the premiere of the opera Arabella under the musical direction of Heinz Wallberg . In November 1980 he was the Count of Westmoreland in the opera Sly or The Legend of the Resurrected Sleeper by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari . In the 1980/81 season he sang the farmer Kruschina in a new production of the Smetana opera The Bartered Bride (premiere: January 1981). In the 1980/81 season he also took over the impresario in a production of Donizetti's opera Viva la Mamma (premiere: March 1981). In January 1982 he sang the role of Captain Selva in the premiere of the opera Die Stumme von Portici in Wiesbaden . In April 1982 the role of the rich citizen Riedinger followed in the opera Mathis der Maler , in which he “provided a profound accent in the high-quality ensemble.” In January 1983 he took over the role of First Priest in the new production of the opera Die Zauberflöte in the Directed by Nikolaus Lehnhoff . In June 1983 he sang the role of Yamadori in the opera Madama Butterfly . In the 1983/84 season he took over the forester Kuno in a new production of the opera Der Freischütz (director: Gilbert Deflo ). In March 1984 he sang the comic role of Schlucker in the opera A Midsummer Night's Dream in Wiesbaden . In January 1985 he played and sang the comic role of Lord Kookburn in the opera Fra Diavolo , where he "as an Englishman made a good face for a harmless play". In April 1985, he played the role of Mr. Peachum in the musical play The Beggar's Opera . The magazine Opernwelt wrote: “Heinz Peters is to be thanked that the level and tension arose. He spoke perfectly, although he is not an actor. ”In November 1986 he was the host Benoit in a new production of the opera La Bohème . In February 1987 he sang the master glazier in the premiere of Ein Traumspiel , the first opera (premiered in Kiel in 1965 ) by the composer Aribert Reimann . In March 1987 he was the sergeant in the opera Simplicius Simplicissimus by Karl Amadeus Hartmann . In the 1987/88 season he sang the smuggler Dancairo in a new production of the opera Carmen (premiere: November 1987), but appeared to have "crawled out of the clothes box" as an actor. In addition, he sang in the 1987/88 season (premiere: March 1988) as castellan in the opera Das Spielwerk and the Princess by Franz Schreker . In November 1988 he sang and played the prison director Frank in the premiere of the operetta Die Fledermaus . In January 1989 he took over the speaking role of the steward of the Wiesbaden State Theater in the new production of the opera Ariadne auf Naxos under the musical direction of Ulf Schirmer . In April 1989 he sang Doctor Bartolo in the new production of Mozart's opera Le nozze di Figaro , also under the musical direction of Ulf Schirmer. Peters' last premieres at the Wiesbaden State Theater in September 1991 included the new production of Wagner's opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg , in which he took on the role of guild master Konrad Nachtigall. In the 1992/93 season he worked in a new production of the opera Der Evangelimann as the elderly citizen Aibler. In the 1992/93 season he was responsible for the "traditionally traditional" direction of a new production of the operetta The Bird Dealer at the Wiesbaden State Theater , in which he also played and sang the role of the little worm, one of the two comic professors .

Peters also completed television appearances . In 1965, directed by Herbert Junkers , Peters gave Prince Yamadori in a television production of the opera Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini at the side of Anneliese Rothenberger . He also appeared in 1966 as a guest on the television show One Will Win that recorded on March 12 of that year, together with Reinhold Bartel , performing arias from La Bohème .

Peter's staging of the fairy tale opera Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck at the Wiesbaden State Theater has been running there since 1982. As an opera director in Wiesbaden he also staged the operas Tosca and Schwanda, the Bagpiper and the operettas Wiener Blut and The Bird Trader .
