Reinhold Bartel
Reinhold Bartel (born March 1, 1926 in Trier ; † August 10, 1996 in Wiesbaden ) was a German opera singer ( tenor ).
Life
Bartel studied singing at the Cologne University of Music and was already performing at the Bonn Theater as Rosillon in The Merry Widow . In 1953 he received his first engagement at the Trier Theater . In 1956 he moved to the Staatstheater Wiesbaden , where he was a member of the ensemble until his stage farewell in 1977 . During guest tours he appeared at the Vienna State Opera and the Warsaw National Opera .
Bartel mainly took on scores from the lyric tenor department : the title hero in Serse , Idamante in Idomeneo , Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni , Tamino in Die Zauberflöte , Jacquino in Fidelio , Wilhelm Meister in Mignon , Lenski in Eugen Onegin and Stewa in Jenůfa . The captain in Wozzeck and Schwalb in Mathis the painter were among his later singing roles .
He participated in the world premiere of Wilhelm Killmayer's opera Yolimba on March 15, 1964 in Wiesbaden, as well as in the German premieres of The Crucible by Robert Ward (1963) and La diavolessa by Baldassare Galuppi (1964).
He was also a sought-after operetta singer. In this area, Bartel sang with many well-known stars such as Peter Alexander , René Kollo , Herta Talmar , Rita Bartos and Margit Schramm . Several cross-sections of operettas were created by Polydor under the conductor Franz Marszalek . Reinhold Bartel also worked with Marszalek at WDR Cologne . Here he appeared in complete recordings of the operettas The beautiful Galathée , The Divorced Woman and The Bird Trader . He recorded operetta cross-cuts and songs accompanied by large orchestras at almost all German radio stations, was heard in numerous radio broadcasts and repeatedly worked as a concert and oratorio singer.
In the 1960s, Bartel, who was considered a versatile tenor, dared a foray into the so-called light muse: he recorded the two hits I don't want to lose you and tomorrow, it will be nicer (conductor: Franz Marszalek ) at Polydor . The single immediately made it into the Radio Luxemburg charts . He appeared several times in the evening program of German television, including a. in the quiz show one will win with Hans Joachim Kulenkampff , do you recognize the melody? , im Blauen Bock with Otto Höpfner, in lavishly produced operetta films such as the WDR production Hofball für den Walzerkönig directed by Franz Marszalek .
Bartel sang the high C so clearly that his record company Telefunken gave him the nickname "Knight of the High C". Since 1976 he has worked as a teacher at the University of Mainz .
He is the father of the ZDF news anchor Elmar Bartel .
