Margit Schramm

Margit Schramm (born July 21, 1935 in Dortmund , † May 12, 1996 in Munich ) was a German opera , lied and operetta singer ( soprano ), also "operetta queen", chamber singer and film actress.

Life

The singer Margit Schramm made her debut in 1954 in the singspiel Meine Sister und Ich . In the 1960s she became known as an operetta diva on German television, in numerous concerts and in films, where she often appeared together with her favorite stage partner, the tenor Rudolf Schock , and was also able to look back on numerous appearances on television shows.

Her best-known and best roles include the performances in I quattro Rusteghi , Clivia , Madame Pompadour , Countess Mariza , Frau Luna and The Merry Widow . In the latter operetta she appeared on stage more than 500 times in the role of Hanna Glawari.

The artist has also worked in a number of successful operetta films: Frau Luna (1964), Viktoria und ihr Husar (1965) and Waltz Dream (1969). Her partners included: Johannes Heesters , Brigitte Mira , Gunnar Möller , Viktor de Kowa , Reinhold Bartel and Rudolf Schock .

Together with Willy Schneider as cellar master, she presented the SWF Saturday evening show “The Happy Wine Round” as hostess and landlady - with artists such as Paul Henckels , Arno Paulsen , Jupp Hussels , Frank Barufski and Kurt Großkurth as regular guests.

In her second marriage she married the director Fred Kraus , the father of the pop singer Peter Kraus . Peter Kraus and Margit Schramm star in the 1969 film Waltz Dream , while Fred Kraus directed.

In the early 1980s, when the operetta lost its broadcasting slots, she withdrew from the stage and television and lived as a businesswoman in Munich, where she died at the age of 60.

She found her final resting place in the Grasbrunn OT Neukeferloh cemetery.

  • In 2005, a street in Munich's district 9 (Neuhausen / Nymphenburg) was named after the "Queen of the Opera".
