Fred Kraus

Fred Kraus (* 1912 in Salzburg as Fred Krausenecker ; † June 14, 1993 in Munich ) was an Austrian cabaret artist , actor , singer, television director and television producer . He is the father of the singer and actor Peter Kraus .

Live and act

Kraus already appeared as a voice imitator during the Nazi era, for example in 1941 at " Kraft durch Freude " events in Hall and Innsbruck.

At the end of the war, Kraus founded the ensemble “The Little Four” together with Gunther Philipp , Peter Wehle and Maria Holst . On January 19, 1946, he opened the cabaret “Bei Fred Kraus” in the former Café Krimmel in Salzburg, on the corner of Rainerstraße and Hubert-Sattler-Gasse. On June 14, 1947, he moved his cabaret to the Mödlhammer inn at Getreidegasse 26, which could accommodate 250 visitors. On November 6, 1948, A literary carousel of Erich Kastner in his premiere. Kästner was a guest at one of the performances. Also in 1948 he took on a leading role alongside Hans Moser in the film Der Herr Kanzleirat .

In 1955 Kraus played at the Deutsches Theater in Munich in the play Ein Münchner in Wien , an adaptation of the Singspiel Gigerl from Vienna by Alexander Steinbrecher alongside the main actor Michl Lang . Franz Marischka , who was also playing, commented that Kraus was “almost worse than me”.

In the music film Melodie und Rhythmus from 1959 he took on the role of the film father of his now well-known son Peter Kraus . From 1959 to 1961 he was the star of the ARD broadcast Fred Kraus Brettl . In the second half of the 1960s he directed television, including several broadcasts from the Millowitsch Theater in Cologne . Through his television production company Telecine Film , which he founded in the early 1960s , he also took over the production of some programs, for example 1964 Walks through the Land of Operetta with Peter Alexander and Ingeborg Hallstein . At that time Kraus was married to the singer Margit Schramm .

Fred Kraus also worked as a voice actor and singer, including in Franz Antel's Das singende Haus , where he lent Curd Jürgens his singing voice. At the end of 1946 Kraus was able to point to thirteen films as a voice actor.

Fred Kraus was buried in the municipal cemetery of Morcote , in the Swiss canton of Ticino .
