Hohe Warte nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The approximately 90 hectare nature reserve Hohe Warte belonging to the Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft nature park is located northwest of the town of Doberlug-Kirchhain in the Elbe-Elster district .

The area, characterized by sessile oak and beech forests as well as weed-pine forests, forms the core of one of the largest contiguous forest complexes in the Elbe-Elster district and offers a favorable habitat, especially for large bird species that are sensitive to disturbance. In addition, there are remnants of the red beech , which is rare in Lower Lusatia , whose occurrence in this area is already documented for the year 1765 and whose preservation is intended to serve as a protected status. In addition, the preservation of sufficiently old, berry-rich old wood is an indispensable prerequisite for the successful reintroduction of the capercaillie, which died out here a few years ago.
