The Alte Röder nature reserve near Prieschka is located in the Elbe-Elster district in Brandenburg . The nature reserve is located to the left of the Schwarzen Elster between the Bad Liebenwerda district of Prieschka and the Würdenhain belonging to the municipality of Röderland in the Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft nature park , which covers an area of ​​484 km². The Röderniederung, which was placed under nature protection in 1981, is home to one of the most consistent occurrences of the Elbe beaver, which is threatened with extinction. Its protective purpose consists, among other things, in the preservation and development of this area as a habitat for the Elbe beaver and other animal species that are threatened.

The approximately 80 hectare nature reserve extends along the course of the river of the old Röder. The Alte Röder is originally an old river course of the Black Elster between Würdenhain and Prieschka and was used as a course of the Große Röder from the Elster regulation (1852 to 1864) until the First World War . The area where the Alte Röder flows into the Schwarze Elster is also known as the Gänsewinkel . It is located northeast of Prieschka in the immediate vicinity of the transition from state road 593 over the Black Elster.
