Dmitri Sergejewitsch Kovalev

Dmitri Sergejewitsch Kowaljow ( Russian Дмитрий Сергеевич Ковалёв ; born May 15, 1982 in Omsk , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian handball player .

The 1.80 meters tall and 80 kilograms heavy right wing player began playing handball at the Omsk children's and youth sports school . From 1999 to 2003 he played at the Sungul Sneschinsk club and from 2003 was under contract with Medvedi Chekhov . With this club was Russian champions from 2004 to 2013, 2015 and 2016 and played in the 2003/2004 to 2009/2010 seasons in the EHF Champions League and in the 2005/06 European Cup Winners' Cup . In the summer of 2017, Kovalev joined the Russian first division club GK Spartak Moscow .

In 2001 he was Junior European Champion and Junior World Champion with the Russian team.

Dmitri Kowaljow scored 552 goals in 213 international matches for the Russian national team and was in the squad for the 2010 and 2012 European handball championships . He played in the 2008 Olympics .

He graduated from the Urals Academy of Physical Culture in 2003 . He is married.
