This page describes the qualification for the 7th European Handball Championship 2006 men .
31 nations were involved in the qualification, of which 10 teams qualified for the finals in Slovenia
. In addition to Switzerland , as the organizer, the five best teams in the 2004 European Championship , ie defending champions Germany , Slovenia , Denmark , Croatia and Russia were directly qualified.

qualification
23 teams took part in the qualification. They had to compete in six groups - five groups of four teams each and one group of three teams. The group winners and runners-up were eligible to start in the play-off round, where a further eight teams set up for the play-off games were added.

Play-off round
In addition to the group winners and runners-up in the qualification, eight teams based on the ranking were added. These were France, Greece, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Serbia-Montenegro, Spain and the Czech Republic. These determined the remaining ten participants for the 2006 finals in the knockout system.
