Ulbroka (German: Ulenbrock ) is a place in Latvia on the eastern periphery of Riga . This is where the Stopiņu novad administration center is located .
history
The place is named after H. von Ulenbrock, who was mayor of Riga in the 16th century and received an estate here. The Red Army operated a large communication center here with associated radio masts.
In the vicinity there are natural deposits of gypsum that were used in a gypsum factory from 1913 onwards.
Stopiņu novads
The Stopiņi municipality became Stopiņu novads in 2004 without changing its territory. (See also: Administrative division of Latvia ). The largest places are Ulbroka, Saurieši, Upeslejas, Dreiliņi and Stopiņi. Of the 9,908 inhabitants (July 1, 2010) 55% are Latvian, 33% Russian and 5% Belarusian. 53% are male and 47% female. The small Jugla flows through the area ; 54% of the area is forested.
