Referendum in Rwanda in 1961

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1961 referendum in Rwanda was held on September 25, 1961. The vote concerned the question of whether the Kingdom of Rwanda - at that time part of the Belgian Rwanda-Urundi - should remain a monarchy after independence in the following year and whether the incumbent King Kigeli V should remain king.

With a turnout of 95 percent, almost 80 percent of voters answered both questions negatively.
