Vlatko Mitkov ( Macedonian Влатко Митков ; born August 16, 1981 in Štip , SR Macedonia , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a handball player with Austrian citizenship.
Vlakto Mitkov started playing handball in his hometown when he was 13. He quickly attracted attention and switched to the first division club RK Pelister Bitola . Here he became the Macedonian champion in 2002, at the same time he was targeted by foreign clubs. In 2003 he was hired by the SG Willstätt / Schutterwald , where he stayed for three years and improved again. Mitkov then hired the first division club HSG Wetzlar . There, however, he did not know how to convince; in the summer of 2008 Mitkov moved to the second division ASV Hamm . In January 2010 he was signed by the Bundesliga club Balingen-Weilstetten. In summer 2011 he left Balingen for Austria, where he signed a contract with HSG Raiffeisen Bärnbach / Köflach .
From June 2012 the backcourt player ran for the UHK Krems in the Handball League Austria . In 2018 the backcourt player received Austrian citizenship and switched to Bregenz Handball . Mostly it is used in the right back space. For the 2020/21 season he will move to the Austrian second division club UHC Hollabrunn.
Vlatko Mitkov has so far played 91 international matches for the Macedonian men's handball team. With surprising victories in the qualifying games for the 2009 World Cup against Olympic finalist Iceland, he qualified with Macedonia for the finals in Croatia. He also played for Macedonia at the 2016 European Championship finals in Poland. The team qualified for the main round, but finished last in the group.
