Dika Akwa Mem (born August 31, 1997 in Paris ) is a French national handball player and world champion of the year 2017. His playing position is right back . Dika Mem plays for the Spanish top club and Champions League record winner FC Barcelona Lassa in the ASOBAL league . In expert circles, Dika Mem is considered an outstanding exceptional athlete who is predicted to have a great future.
Career
youth
At the age of 13, Dika Mem began playing handball in 2011 at CSM Eaubonne , a club from the suburbs of Paris. He hadn't really been interested in handball until then. One day a childhood friend suggested that he take part in a screening of young players in Eaubonne. He was told that left-handers were very popular and that he might be given a chance to play in the Val d'Oise selection . Although Dika Mem had previously been more interested in football, he liked being able to represent the best players in the department and so he stuck to handball and liked it. Even before he even joined a club, he was called into the selection of Val-d'Oise.
In 2013, after two years, he moved to the neighboring club Entente Sannois Saint-Gratien in the north of Paris , where he played for the men in the French third division as a 16-year-old and only three months after being directly integrated into the A -Team developed into a cornerstone of the team. A week before his 17th birthday in 2014, at the age of 16, he won the gold medal at the U18 European Championships in Poland. A year later, as a 17-year-old, he became world champion with the French U19 national team in Russia in 2015 and with six goals was the most successful goalscorer in the final, which France won against Slovenia 33:26.
During this time, from 2012 to 2015, Dika Mem completed his training as a selected beacon of hope in the excellence center of the CDFAS (Center départemental de formation en activités sportives), which is located in the municipalities of Eaubonne and Saint-Gratien and one of the best youth training centers in France in the field of handball counts. A large number of French professional players were trained here.
Shortly after Dika Mem had already received a professional contract for the 1st French league at the age of 17 and a few weeks before he won the world championship with the U19 national team, he graduated from a technical high school with a BTS (Brevet de technicien supérieur) in computer science management.
Professional in the Ligue Nationale de Handball
Dika Mem was recruited for the 2015/2016 season by almost all clubs in the French Ligue Nationale de Handball after his achievements during his youth . Among other things, the big PSG ( Paris Sant-German ) tried to sign the then 17-year-old as a professional. However, Dika Mem decided on a three-year contract with the neighboring club Tremblay-en-France , which also played in the French first division. He preferred to play it safe and play for a club that, while less prestigious than the PSG, would likely have more opportunities to express himself. His coach at the time, David Christman, wanted to carefully integrate the young Dika Mem into the team, especially since Tremblay already had two good and more experienced players in his playing position. a. about a Slovenian international. After three weeks, however, it turned out that Dika Mem was in no way inferior to the two competitors. After a month and a half he proved to be the undisputed number one on the right backcourt position in the professional team and convinced with outstanding qualities in attack and defense. For the coach there was no way around putting Dika Mem at the head of the team. In his first season as a professional, Dika Mem already completed 25 games in which he scored 93 goals.
After only one year as a professional in the French top league, another career step should soon follow for Dika Mem when the nine-time Champions League winner FC Barcelona contacts him.
The great FC Barcelona calls the 18-year-old
In the meantime, people in the world of handball had become aware of Dika Mem across all borders. He was still 18 when he was offered a 6-year contract for a long-term strategy together with FC Barcelona in 2016. Dika Mem used this perhaps unique opportunity. He was able to fall back on a release clause in his contract with Tremblay, and FC Barcelona unconditionally paid the agreed transfer fee of 100,000 euros. This makes Dika Mem the youngest player Barça has ever signed for the first team.
Dika Mem is the best young player in the world
After his second season at FC Barcelona, in which he was already one of the top performers, and after another very successful year as a player for the French national team, Dika Mem was named the best young player in the world in 2018, after having previously gone into space -Star team of the EHF Champions League was chosen.
High achiever at FC Barcelona
Both in the Spanish ASOBAL league and in the Champions League, Dika Mem is one of the top performers at FC Barcelona. Already in his second season at Barça, at the age of 20, he was selected by the EHF as the best right backcourt player in the Champions League All-Star team and thus prevailed in his playing position due to his outstanding performance against the entire world elite. Although the contract with Dika Mem was still valid for another four years at that time, shortly before the start of the 2018/2019 season, FC Barcelona set a clear example by offering the French, who has now been recognized as the best young player in the world, a contract extension until 2024 in order to secure its services as a key player in the long term. The reigning world champion accepted the offer and emphasized how comfortable he feels in the team and the entire environment of the club. Dika Mem justified the trust placed in him with a very strong performance during the 2018/2019 season and was elected to both the All-Star Team of the ASOBAL league and the top 7 of the EHPU (European Handball Players Union).
National team
With the French men's national team , Dika Mem became world champion in 2017 at the age of only 19 . A year later he won the bronze medal with the " Les Experts " at the European Championships in Croatia in 2018 and was selected as the best right back player in the All-Star team after the preliminary round. In the 2017/2018 Golden League, Dika Mem was given the role of playmaker of the French national team during the third stage in Norway, as Nikola Karabatic was unable to take part in the tournament due to an injury. The 20-year-old also mastered this new challenge with an impressive performance and was chosen as the best playmaker in the tournament's all-star team. In a preview of the 2019 World Cup in Germany and Denmark, the DHB counted Dika Mem, who has meanwhile been awarded the title of the best young player in the world, to one of the top three players on the French national team, which was considered the tournament's favorite. With a victory against the DHB selection in the game for third place, Dika Mem won the bronze medal at the 2019 World Cup.
