Igor Vori (born September 20, 1980 in Zagreb , Yugoslavia ) is a former Croatian handball player . He is now working as a handball trainer.
Vori, who last played for the Croatian club RK Zagreb and ran for the Croatian national team (shirt number 9), was used almost exclusively as a circular runner.
Career
Igor Vori played for RK Zagreb since his youth and played his first league games there in 1997. Here he won the Croatian championship in 1997/98, 1998/99 and 1999/2000 and the Croatian Cup in 1997/98 and 1998/99. In 2001 he moved to Italy to Al.Pi. Pallamano Prato and in 2002 on to the Italian series champion Pallamano Conversano . With this club he won the Italian championship and the Italian cup in 2002/03, but he still did not feel comfortable in Italy and returned to RK Zagreb.
Again he won championship and cup in Croatia in 2003/04 and 2004/05; In 2004/05 he even made it to the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup with his club , where they lost to Ademar León . So he got on the wish list of FC Barcelona ; In 2005 he was hired by the Catalans. Here he won the Spanish championship in 2005/06 and the Spanish Supercup and the Copa ASOBAL in 2006/07 . In the summer of 2007, other clubs were also interested in him: at THW Kiel , he was temporarily under discussion as the successor to Pelle Linders , but finally his old club, the now financially stronger RK Zagreb , signed him. After two seasons in Zagreb, he moved to HSV Hamburg. With the HSV Vori won in 2009 and 2010, the DHB-Supercup , 2010 the DHB Cup , in 2011 the championship and in 2013 the Champions League. After the 2012/13 season he moved to Paris Saint-Germain . With Paris he won the French Cup in 2014 and 2015 and the French championship in 2015 and 2016. In summer 2016 he returned to RK Zagreb. In 2017 and 2018 he was Croatian champion and cup winner, after the 2017/18 season he ended his career. In April 2019, Vori was reactivated by RK Zagreb.
So far, Igor Vori has played 223 international matches for the Croatian national team. In the 2003 World Cup in Portugal he became world champion and the World Cup in Tunisia in 2005 vice-world champion. He also won gold at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. In the summer of 2012, Vori again took part in the Olympic Games in London , where he won the bronze medal.
At the 2007 World Cup in Germany , he finished 5th with the Croatian selection. At the European Championships in Norway in 2008 , he and his country were voted vice-European champions and the best defender of the tournament. A year later Croatia was runner-up again at the World Cup in its own country and Vori was not only voted into the All-Star Team, but also voted the most valuable player of the tournament. In November 2009, Igor Vori was voted Croatian handball player of the year. At the beginning of 2010, Vori was elected Vice European Champion and as the best district player in the All-Star-Team.
Vori took over as coach from RK Zagreb for the 2020/21 season.
