Carlos Alberto da Rocha Resende (born May 29, 1971 in Porto , Portugal ) is a Portuguese handball coach and former handball player .

Career

The left backcourt player played in Portugal throughout his career. With Sporting Lisbon he became Portuguese youth champion in 1988. A year later he won the junior title with his new club, FC Porto . In 1994 he triumphed in the cup competition. He then moved to ABC Braga , with whom he was able to win four championships and three cup wins. In 2000 he returned to FC Porto and led him to three championships and four cup wins. In 2006 he ended his career and became the team's coach. After the championship in 2009 he took a break and studied sport management at the Instituto Superior da Maia. After a two year hiatus, he took over the coaching post at ABC Braga. In the summer of 2017, Resende moved to Benfica Lisbon . After the 2019/20 season, he gave up his coaching position.

Carlos Resende is Portugal's record holder in both categories with 1,444 goals in 250 international matches . He was elected fifth-best goalscorer and the All-Star team at the European Championships in 2000 .
