German Avricourt around 1915 |
Avricourt is a French commune with 612 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).
geography
The municipality of Avricourt is located in the Lorraine Regional Nature Park , about 20 kilometers southwest of Sarrebourg on the border with the neighboring département Meurthe-et-Moselle .
The farm la Baronne ( Freunhof ) in the Bois de la Baronne ( Freunholz ) to the west belongs to Avricourt .
history
The place was first mentioned as Avricorth in 1127 . Then 1142: Albsidingen, 1435: Ellefringen, 1484: Elfferingen, 1513: Elferingen, 1618: Elhaben.
Until 1871 there was only one parish called Avricourt, artificially separated by the Nancy - Strasbourg railway line . The division took place after the Franco-German War between France and the German Empire . The northern part of Avricourt came to Germany. Since the Igney-Avricourt station was in the southern part of Avricourt and thus in France, a separate border station was built on the German side in 1875. The German northern part of Avricourt was now officially called Deutsch-Avricourt and was renamed Elfringen in 1915 , the Elfringen (Lorraine) station .
In November 1918, the place was returned to France, but remained an independent municipality and was not reunited with the southern part (today's neighboring municipality of Avricourt in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department ).
