Stalk disease

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The stem stained disease is a disease of the potato and is controlled by the tobacco rattle virus caused.

Symptoms and Biology

The following symptoms can be observed: Ring-shaped spots appear on the leaves of individual shoots of the potato plants, arched necroses or "iron spots" appear in the tuberous tissue, spots sunken on the tuber skin.

The transmission takes place through free living nematodes . The virus can overwinter in the nematodes, in the soil or in the tuber. Several field weeds (e.g. chickweed , French herb , pansy ) serve as host and source of transmission.

Combat

  • Weed control and the removal of plant residues are in the foreground.
  • Another possibility is the cultivation of resistant potato varieties.
