The tobacco rattle virus ( scientifically Tobacco rattle virus , acronym TRV ) is a virus that causes problems in agriculture. It was discovered by Karl Böning in 1931 on the cultivated plant Virginian tobacco ( Nicotiana tabacum ) and belongs to the tobravirus genus .

features

The tobacco rattle virus is a rod-shaped virus. The virus consists of one or two parts, the diameter of one particle is 22 nm . The virus inactivation is effected at a ten minute thermal treatment at 80 to 85 ° C.

distribution

The tobacco rattle virus is widespread in Eurasia , North, South and Central America, China , Japan and the territory of the former Soviet Union . It has been found in New Zealand and Australia , but with no evidence of spread .

Agricultural importance

The Tobacco Rattle virus leads to the potato to stalk colored disease , a damaged image of the tuber is the rust spot . In beets , it leads to beet yellowing . It is transmitted to the roots by nematodes ; over 400 plant species in 50 plant families are susceptible to infection .
