Area (virology)

One area ( English realm ) is the highest rank in the virus taxonomy of virology , which is determined by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV). The names of areas end with the ending -viria . Since March 2020 there are the following areas confirmed by ICTV:

At this level, many of the DNA viruses are still without an assigned area.

classification

An area can be subdivided into sub-areas ( English subrealms ) with the ending -vira . In virology followed by sub-region in the ranking next Empire ( English kingdoms ) ending -virae , followed Underdark and phylum (or tribe ) with ending -viricota . As the highest rank (still above Reich ) corresponds to the area in about anything that is normally in cellular organisms domain ( english domain is called). The permitted name endings for areas are -viria and for sub-areas -vira .
