Area (virology)
One area ( English realm ) is the highest rank in the virus taxonomy of virology , which is determined by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV). The names of areas end with the ending -viria . Since March 2020 there are the following areas confirmed by ICTV:
- Riboviria (includes the previous Baltimore groups 3, 4, 5 (almost all RNA viruses, but without the viroids of the families Avsunviroidae , Pospiviroidae and the genus Deltavirus ), as well as 6 and 7 (retro and pararetroviruses))
- Duplodnaviria (dsDNA viruses, i.e. Baltimore Group 1)
- Varidnaviria (corresponds to the earlier proposal " Divdnaviria ", also dsDNA viruses)
- Monodnaviria (ssDNA viruses, i.e. Baltimore group 2, but also other dsDNA viruses)
At this level, many of the DNA viruses are still without an assigned area.
classification
An area can be subdivided into sub-areas ( English subrealms ) with the ending -vira . In virology followed by sub-region in the ranking next Empire ( English kingdoms ) ending -virae , followed Underdark and phylum (or tribe ) with ending -viricota . As the highest rank (still above Reich ) corresponds to the area in about anything that is normally in cellular organisms domain ( english domain is called). The permitted name endings for areas are -viria and for sub-areas -vira .
