The Léonie Islands are a group of small islands off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . They are located in the entrance to Ryder Bay off the southeast coast of Adelaide Island .
Participants in the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908–1910) discovered these islands. Its director, the French polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot , named the largest of them as Léonie Island . During the British Graham Land Expedition , led by the Australian polar explorer John Rymill , this name was transferred to the entire archipelago.
